Singapore Math users--Where to go after 6B?

We've been on auto-pilot for a few years now, but are at the point where we have to move on to something new for 7th grade math.

What would be a good transition for a child who has been through the elementary years with Singapore? Looking at going into pre-algebra.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I was thinking of AoPS, but didn't know if it was a "complete" program (I don't want to supplement, because I'm just not that great at pulling together multiple programs. Poor Fred has languished on my shelf for 2 years now :blushing:).

DD is no math genius, but has done well with Singapore. Is AoPS a good follow-on for a kid who isn't afraid of math, but doesn't really love it either?

She may eventually move on to private HS, so I want her to be prepared in, I guess, a more traditional school sequence. I'm afraid Singapore's NEM approach might result in gaps if we don't follow it all the way through.

Thanks for your help!

AoPS is more than a complete program. :D It requires absolutely no supplementation.

However, it doesn't contain review, though concepts build on each other logically. If you've got a kid that needs regular review, then it might not be a good fit.

AoPS is definitely a complete program (I also have Poor Fred languishing on a shelf, unopened.)

None of my kids would list math as their favorite subject, but AoPS is a great fit for them. Imo, if your dd had success in Singapore, she will have success in AoPS.

Someone on this forum posted this mapping of the NEM S&S with the traditional US S&S:

Pre-algebra: PM 6 and NEM 1, Ch. 1-4

Algebra I: NEM 1, Ch. 5-8; NEM 2, Ch. 1-7, 12-14

Geometry: NEM 1, Ch. 9-14, NEM 2, Ch. 8-11

Algebra II: NEM 3, Ch. 1-6, 14; some of NEM 4

Advanced Math/Trig: NEM 3: ch. 7-13, NEM 4, ch. 1-4 (precalculus)

Thanks for letting me bring back this older thread....

So this is what the S&S would look like. Has anyone actually done it this way or is this just what it would look like. If you've done it this way or thought about it and decided against, can you please expand?
