pocjets
My first grader just read the first Harry Potter book. Should I continue on with phonics?? It seems like a waste of time to me but I don't want to stop if I need to keep going? We are using Christian Liberty Press Phonics right now and they even have a second grade book for next year. Ellie
Seems like a waste of time to me, too. :-)
chepyl
My first grader is currently reading that book. We only did a slight review at the start of the year because he could read Charlie and the chocolate factory out loud to me. We are doing spelling rules now. Dawn E
I would suggest replacing it with a phonics-based spelling program. I regret dropping phonics with my early reader because she is not a natural speller.

Good readers are not necessarily good spellers, though good spellers are usually good readers. Merry :-)
