Guest
Charlotte Mason style education and how it changes as kids' age. After all the years of looking at different things, I realized I never have given CM much of a look see or time to understand it. I know there are books and websites but those seem so complicated. So tell me...what does CM look like at your house or what bits do you use? I know it is similar to WTM in some ways but that is about it. Websites? Good Blogs? How do you do it with more than one child? Jumping in in the middle (logic age roughly) or near the end (early high school roughly)? How did it go? How do you know what books to use? Curriculum to look at? Any CM in a box? Other CM besides Ambleside Online? LDS CM exist? C'mon...give me something new to research. :) Edited February 11, 2012 by Guest
momto2blessings
That's a tough qu. to answer briefly:) I can say that I wish I would have gone more strictly CM from the start...but was always afraid it wasn't rigorous enough. My mistake. I'm now FINALLY reading CM's volumes and a CM education is very rigorous (but shorter, focused, gentler lessons when young). It's very much about valuing the child as a person, making education an atmosphere and a discipline, good habits for life, connecting with subjects, getting out of the way and letting the child learn (not over-lecturing!) A CM education is full of culture....composer study, picture study, poetry, nature study. All living books, no boring textbooks. Lots of narration (telling back..orally, and then written)....much better than fill-in the blank type learning. If you're going to read more, I highly recommend going straight to the source. You can read original and modern versions of her works for free on http://www.amblesideonline.com. If you want a shorter read (synopsis), I recommend "When Children Love to Learn" over some of the others. HTH some:) Gina
momto2blessings
P.S. If you do read her volumes, Vol. 6 might be a good place to start. It's what I'm reading now...was written after all her years of experience. I belive Vol. 1 is more focused on having younger kids.
Guest
thanks, momto2. I am looking at Ambleside right now. Anyone else? Is there a more secular or religious neutral version of CM? Edited February 11, 2012 by Guest

Guest
I am looking at milestones now. Anyone have a schedule for any of the years 7-12? I am still unclear on how to schedule or set this up. What do they narrate on? When do they move to actual papers?
