ABQmom
Her opening sentences are: Who contributed to the development of the west in the 1800's? Farmers, prospectors, and fur traders did. My question is about that second sentence. Is it okay like that? Is that a fragment? It sounds incomplete to me, yet I understand that she is going for an effect here. We just can't think of another way to change it if indeed a change is needed. Any thoughts?
Evergreen State Sue
I'm not sure if this is any better, but what about: Farmers, prospectors, and fur traders - that's who!

It has a subject and a verb: subject- farmers, prospectors, traders verb- did
ABQmom
Thanks for the replies. She may leave it--she has a couple of hours to decide. :)
goldberry
I think it's incomplete. Farmers did...what? I know the answer is implied, but that's why it sounds odd. I like "that's who" or "The answer is farmers, prospectors, and traders!"
