and we still teach grammar, but not at the same time. The Writing Skills program will keep grammar skills fresh (and provide a bit of instruction, also).

Deb, when you say you do grammar, but not at the same time, do you mean you do grammar every other year? Or do you complete a writing skills book in less than a year? Also what grammar did you use?

Thanks for letting me hi-jack!

perhaps six 6-week rotations or four 9-week ones, depending on the courses we are using and what logical stopping points exist.

Also, we have generally spread one Writing Skills book over 2 years...WS A for 3rd/4th and WS 1 for 5th/6th. This is just the way we have done it. I think you would be fine completing Writing Skills in one year, skipping formal grammar for that year, especially if you were planning to pick it up again the following year. As I posted before, the WS books do a good job of incorporating grammar with composition.

Anyhow, youngest ds used Serl's ILL for 3rd/4th and currently is using Winston Grammar Basic, which is a huge hit here! He loves the cards and is really understanding grammar for the first time. I believe he may partly be a kinesthetic learner, something entirely new after teaching his 2 older brothers. They used various programs, including Hake's Grammar, which is a large book that we spread over two years as well.

I hope this was helpful and not confusing. The Super Bowl celebration is about to begin and I am feeling distracted:o But I wanted to reply before the post got buried, because I don't make it over to this board very often. I hang out over on the high school board.:D
