teeniebeenie6
I am curious if anyone knows of any composer or artist study books written from a Christian perspective? I want to start my 6 year daughter on artist and composer studies but have been a little stuck on resources. Thanks for your help!
teeniebeenie6
Well I found one book while googling: Spiritual Lives of the Great Composers by: Patrick Kavanaugh, but I am more looking for a general biography/music study from a Christian study. Though I may include this book too.
Jay3fer
Color the Godly Composers? http://rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?&subject=17&category=5634 I have to add, the title of these books offends me - leaving out as they do the possibility that any non-Christian composers are ALSO Godly. (Mendelssohn is included but the story included highlights the "triumphant" moment when his father is driven by antisemitism to convert to Christianity - yay - not.) Nevertheless, it might be helpful to you.
teeniebeenie6
Thanks Jennifer for the suggestion! I know what you mean. I don't mind learning about composers/artists of all different faiths, I just like it from a Christian perspective because oftentimes some of the non-kid appropriate life facts of the composer/artists get skipped over. I think some studies just go too deep into dark facts about the composers/artists lives that I don't think even need to be learned and definitely not by a six year old. Not from a Christian perspective per se, but kid-friendly. Most libraries have these also... http://www.mikevenezia.com/mikevenezia/
stripe
What about the CDs from Studio Arts Orchestra? Or Venezia's books? My library has both. Or http://www.classicsforkids.com/ podcasts? Not Christian, but for kids, so not too "adult."
jessie410
I noticed this book from the Creation to Greeks year on MFW and thought it looked good! Looks like it focuses more on the actual art rather than the artist though. http://www.amazon.com/History-Egypt-Twentieth-Century-Godly/dp/B0006S955C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325542133&sr=8-
Sue G in PA
As for Composer study...we absolutely LOVE Young Scholars Guide to Composers by Bright Ideas Press. For grades 4-8 but we "tweak" for those not in that age group. Not sure about artist study.
