PhotoGal
I'm wondering if anyone has a magazine subscription for their kids that they really enjoy? I prefer not too many (or no) advertisements. I was looking at one called "Muse" that looks pretty good. Anyone have recommendations? nicholsonhomeschool
My mom gave my 8yo a subscription to Cricket for Christmas -- obviously we don't much of an opinion yet, but the issue she wrapped looks lovely an interesting. We've also had Ranger Rick with both boys loved (they are 8 and 6).
Bayt ul-Hikmah
We love the magazines put out by Carus Publishing Company (the publishers of Cricket and Muse). We're currently loving Ask and Spider, but have also enjoyed Ladybug. Check the website for the different magazines for your kids' ages. Muse is aimed for kids 9-14. We have our eyes on Appleseeds at the moment! We also really enjoy Ranger Rick (for my older ds) and My Big Backyard (for the littler ds). Pen
Our favorite is Cricket. I think if you get any published by Carus (includes Muse) you can switch from one to another each month till you decide on a favorite.
kubiac
I would vote for National Geographic and/or the Smithsonian magazine. Both of have very interesting articles on a wide array of subjects that are, by and large, suitable for children.
ErinE
We have Ladybug, Cricket, and Spider. All three are popular with the kids. National Geographic and Smithsonian are good as well but have advertisements. Highlights is another one the kids like.
boscopup
We get National Geographic kids one, Animal Babies (same publisher as Ranger Rick), Lego Club (I think that was a free thing), and Boys' Life (through Cub Scouts). My 7 year old's favorites right now are the last two. ETA: Forgot Highlights! DS1 loves that too!
Miss Tick
We've liked all the magazines in the Cricket family. Our library has a number of different children's magazines - that might be a way for you to preview them before you buy.
Walking-Iris
I want to affirm pps---Animal Baby, Big Backyard, and Ranger Rick are fun and we usually go back and do an activity from older years at random, bored, need something to do times. We also have Nat Geography Little Kids Kids. I will say that Nat Geography Kids has ads for video games and such---too many for my liking. We also have National Geographic Little Kids. We have had a few Cricket mags in the past and really liked them. I like Highlights, but it was a flop with my boys. annlaura
Nat Geo Little Kids has no ads and is liked here. Nat Geo Kids has ads, and I don't like it. Wild Animal Babies, Big Backyard, and Ranger Rick are great. I love all the Cricket magazine family, but we get them from the library. I also just found Time for Kids available on my nook color. Apparently it used to only be available through schools. Not sure if it's available in a print edition now as well, but it looks quite nice. Walking-Iris
High Five for your 5 year oldZoobooks for your 7 year old. I forgot about Zoobooks!!! We've read those at various times in the past too. Basically if it's about animals or science my kids like it in magazine form. :)
