Love2Smile
What age groups is this directed towards? Would a 10 year old be too old for them?
Julie in Austin
Ten is a smidge on the high end unless you supplement. That is what we do: in addition to SOTW, he reads and outlines Kingfisher, makes a timeline, reads and writes on primary sources, and reads about a dozen outside books (mostly historical fiction, folktales). Love2Smile
Can you list some of the books you have your child read?
Guest CChauvette
A ten year old is not too old for the Story of the World. I had my 11 year old do Year 4 this past year. He thoroughly enjoyed it along with reading some other history books from the time period. I actually believe that the content of Year 4 is geared for an older child because of all the human atrocities and wars these past 200 years. chiguirre
Sonlight uses SOTW as the spine for Cores 6 and 7.
LisaCA
My DD used them for 1st-4th grade and now we use them the second time around as an introduction on Mondays and use KFE on Wed. and do activities and further study on Fridays. Even my High schoolers have overheard a lesson or two and have made a comment like "oh.." they got the connection of this or that when it was put more simply. lvbeingmom
My dd has used 1-4 and will be doing them again along with the the stuff Julie mentioned. Also I use the activity guide to pick out the books we will read. In advance of the lessons I order the books at our library. That way if our library does not have the book they can be brought in from other libraries and ready for pickup within a week. It makes it so nice to have them ready to go. Love2Smile
Glad to hear this because I plan on using all 4 from 5th to 8th grade with extra reading. Older dd is doing SL, but my younger one cannot handle all Sonlight requires...
