missmoe
What ages are you looking for? We used R&S geography when my kids were 5th and 6th grade. Inexpensive and easy!

Jay3fer
Expedition Earth http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/world-geography Yup! This is what I was going to say. Inexpensive, instant download, lapbooking, free animals supplement, and you're supporting a homeschool mama. Great for kids of almost all ages. SebastianCat
We used Geography Songs CD and workbook along with SL, but that might be a bit too young for a 12 year old.
mama25angels
Expedition Earth http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/world-geography :iagree: this is the one i'm considering next year with my 9yo.
mama25angels
Jean, I also wanted to mention that Knowledge has a geography book with quizzes, it's also called Expedition Earth and is for grades 5-12. Keep us posted about which one you choose!
Aurelia
Another option is Mapping the World with Art by Ellen McHenry.
joyfulmomSDG
Expedition Earth http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/world-geography :iagree: Great as a guide! We change some things around a bit since I'm not the most crafty & have added some books from our library: http://www.amazon.com/Life-Like-Mine-DK-Publishing/dp/0789488590 http://www.amazon.com/School-Like-Mine-DK-Publishing/dp/0756629136/ref=pd_sim_b_1 http://www.amazon.com/Nat-Geo-Wild-Animal-Atlas/dp/1426306997/ref=pd_sim_b_1 They love the passport & flag info, but mine are 7, 5, & 3 so things like population etc, are a bit meaningless to them right now. I don't want to overcomplicate it for them! :001_smile: I added the above books to "Children Just Like Me" because they love learning/seeing the cultural aspects. It seems very easy to adapt to a variety of ages with the addition of age-appropriate library books & maybe adding to the mapping activity. Also, I am hoping to make at least 1 recipe from each country we visit as our "hands-on" activity. (although this hasn't quite started and we're almost out of asia ...but, hey, it's still a goal) The author has posted on her blog some of their own experiences through the curriculum. All in all, it's been really neat to see our little ones grow in understanding that there is a much bigger world out there than our little state. Enjoy your geography trip! tomandlorih
I have a friend who is doing Expedition Earth with her K'er and 2nd and they LOVE it!! May be a bit young for your olders though.. I own(not using yet) Around the World in 180 Days by Sherri Payne that I purchased used for under $20 that might be better for your olders. It is more into research and notebooking and stuff.. Too much for my little one yet.. We are doing Winter Promise Children Around the World(roughly) this year but it is more of a culture thing than geography.. at least not in -depth geo. Found an old thread in my bookmarks discussing this too. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288467 Hope you find something! Edited November 29, 2011 by tomandlorih to add author for 180 days book
