QueenCat
We are going to use Thinkwell Biology this coming year. It is our first Thinkwell course. The only problem is that it does not include lab suggestions. I've found several virtual labs. I need some suggestions on finding real live labs to do, and figuring out how to coordinate them with the curriculum. Anyone have any experience doing this? Thanks! MaryM
http://www.biocourse.com/mhhe/bcc/domains/biolabs.xsphttp://www.okc.cc.ok.us/biologylabs/index.htm We used Thinkwell for Bio too as well as virtual labs and some of these from above. They have all the info online but you still do the "wet labs" in a step by step manner. Selected also from thee sources: http://www.troy.k12.ny.us/thsbiology/labs_online/home_labs/labs_online_home_labs.html http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072437316/student_view0/online_labs.html Mary
QueenCat
Mary, Wow! These sites are great. I'd already found the one from Troy but the others were new to me. How did you pace the course? We just got the Notes book in the mail. J is finally getting excited about biology. He loves the physical sciences, astronomy, but really isn't in to life sciences. I'm hoping the visuals with Thinkwell will inspire him. thanks, Cathie
MaryM
Glad to help, Cathie. Pacing.. well, we did a textbook along with the Thinkwell so I think we ended up doing 2-3 of the Thinkwell lectures daily. But, we didn't start these lectures till late into the term. I coordinated the Thinkwell with the textbook sequence but wish I had just started at the beginning and worked thru as George Wolfe presents them. This guy is VERY interesting and fun in his presentation so I do hope he inspires your son to enjoy the life sciences! Good luck!
