sbgrace
I'd love any suggestions for getting fabric softener (think heavy use over a long time) out of used clothing? I've aired the clothes, used vinegar, and washed sanitized cycle tons of times (one set I washed over 10 times) without any significant reduction in the odor. A generous person gave me tons of kids clothes. We could really use them/my boys need clothes. However, I have a son who has an asthma attack if he wears them and the thread on chemicals made me feel bad using them on the other kid (and storing them in his room to boot). Is there a way to get it out?
LaxMom
There is a laundry detergent meant for stripping sporting gear. People use it to strip residue out of diapers... Let me try to find it. I think it's called "sport wash". eta: Aha! Here it is! Yes, it's Sport Wash. Made for technical clothing and will strip out the residue that gets left behind by other detergents/softeners (making your Under Armor stinky). Mabeline
Maybe oxyclean would help. I would try soaking them in a washer full of baking soda, washing soda, and an unscented detergent, then rinse with vinegar. HTH
Princess Peach
There are special detergents that are used by hunters to remove scents that may work. Probably can be found at Dick's or other sporting goods stores.
My3Monkeys
Sportwash might do it. This time of year they have it in the hunting section at Walmart.
Sharon H in IL
Rockin Green is a brand highly recommended by my cloth diapering friends to get diapers clean. Various types for various water conditions (they have a map of the U.S. on their main page). Funk Rock is supposed to be able to strip diapers of any and all bad smells/additives.
