Brigitte
I am thinking of getting a Kindle, but I don't know yet which one. There is a book I need to order for a book group this week. Is it possible to order the Kindle version and read it off my laptop until I decide which Kindle I want? If I can, do I need special software? As for the Kindle itself, do I want the basic, non-keyboard version or should I spend the extra $20 and wait for the touch?

We have hundreds of Kindle ebooks but still do not have a Kindle. You will need to download and install Kindle software from Amazon for your PC first and then register it with them before you can purchase any Kindle books. Then you can later move your ebooks to a Kindle if/when you get one.
Brigitte
Thank you. I found it and downloaded it! I did find out the plain Kindle doesn't have audio. So, I am going to wait for the touch.

My plain Kindle has audio. It is the regular one with a keypad.
