whiskeywife
I'm looking for suggestions for high school science and social studies curriculum programs. I've done searches but I'm finding a lot of programs that are more christian centered. I am an athiest so we are looking for a fact based program not religious based. We need some biology, chemsitry and any other hs science suggestions. Also us history, government, european history and any other hs social studies suggestions. Any ideas? TIA:)
regentrude
You may want to begin by searching this subforum by subject. There have been many threads about individual subjects, discussing curriculum choices for physics, biology, chemistry etc.
Nan in Mass
Best for what? A good program for one family is a bad program for another family. If you describe your homeschooling goals and your teaching abilities and what sort of students you have and ask what would achieve those goals, people will be better able to give you specific suggestions. Asking for secular suggestions is a good start. That eliminates lots of things right there. Have you read TWTM? Nan
Sebastian (a lady)
I will second the Well Trained Mind since it is more of a method than a hard and fast curriculum. Much easier to tailor to your goals and interests than a premade program that you have to rewrite.
whiskeywife
I'm not really sure what exactly I'm looking for. That's why I'm looking for suggestions:D. I would like something he can kind of do on his own. He is taking teaching textbooks algebra and I like how it is all done without me. Math is not my thing at all so this works out well. I would like something self-paced that he can do with little help from me. Other than that, I'm not really sure what is out there. As I stated in my earlier post, a lot of what I'm finding is religious based and that is not what I want. Thanks
3andme
Oak Meadow is a secular organization that offers a full variety of programs for high school. Other online options are K12 and FLVS. For history, you might try History at our House. These are daily history lessons. For science, Derek Owens for Physical Science or Physics. He also offers math classes up through Calculus. Georgia Public Broadcasting also has two series one for Chemistry & one for Physics. These include free videos and worksheets which can be used to complement a textbook. Kinetic Books has math and Physics courses. If you're interested in AP level courses, there is Pennsylvania Homeschoolers. Thinkwell has math, sciences, and American Government & Economics. onlineg3 is oriented to younger gifted students but some of their offerings in language arts, history and government might work for a younger high school student as well. Debra Bell has online pre-Ap classes in history, sciences, and english. Edited October 19, 2011 by 3andme
