Fran51
Please explain the following sentence regarding correct usage of the pronoun "me." No one in my class is just like me. If I use a check method and think, "No one in my class is just like I am," then "me" would be incorrect. What am I missing? Thanks.

Gailmegan
If I use a check method and think, "No one in my class is just like I am," then "me" would be incorrect. Agreeing with everyone and clarifying further: "Like" is a preposition to be followed by an object. Your example quoted above is incorrect. To use "I am" you would use "as" (conjunction) instead of "like". The two correct ways of saying the same thing are: "No one in my class is like me." OR "No one in my class is as I am." Yes, it sounds stuffy, so people use like in this context, incorrectly, quite frequently.

HelenNotOfTroy
The way I check for whether to use me or I is to substitute she/her or he/him.
