Joanne
It was an interesting, and compelling, presentation integrating the medical/pharmacological model of (addictive) disease treatment with the models currently in use. http://enterhealth.com/ This guy offered the presentation. Someday, I'd *love* to be the Clinical Director at a similar place. And! I met this professional interventionist for the 2nd time! She taught a class (one session) at my school and was at today's presentation. We talked (briefly) about what I am doing with my current role at my practicum. She is filming another Dr. Phil show next week. Movie, sports, or music celebrities? Eh. Mental health celebrities? Floats my boat!
AuntieM
My teens and I studied the physiology of the addicted brain last semester (coincidentally, in separate health/science/psychology classes). Fascinating stuff!

Chris in VA
We saw some very interesting research on brains/addiction while ds was in treatment (actually, the whole family is in treatment). It makes me even more amazed when addicted people stay clean, because I now realize more of what they are up against--their own brains turn against them, in a way. It's just so, so hard to overcome.
