kht2006
Traveling this weekend for my niece's b-day from North TX toward Victoria. I googled txdot, but I can't tell if it includes information about road closures due to fires. Thank you for your help!
Jann in TX
this is where the BIG fire is burning (out of control). Fire is between Bastrop and Smithville... no telling where it will be by this weekend. Kvue.com (an Austin news station) has updates that may help you. kht2006
Thank you Jann. I'm bookmarking that site! Any other websites to know? I usually go from San Antonio toward Blanco. I heard that Blanco had to be evacuated. Are there any road closures there?
UnPrairieMuffin
http://ticc.tamu.edu/Response/FireActivity/ I am in east Texas, but one of the roads I use to travel frequently to Tyler, TX is closed right now. This map shows current fires. Perhaps you could plan your route and then see if major areas are closed? I keep praying for rain for TX, it's disheartening to see so much land burned. Unicorn.
Blanco is fine. There was a fire near Fair Oaks Ranch, but they got it out pretty quickly. I will come back w/ some links for you in few minutes. ETA: http://www.dot.state.tx.us/travel/road_conditions.htm type in the road, and it will let you know if it is closed http://www.dot.state.tx.us/GIS/HCRS_main/viewer.htm map w/ road closures. use the zoom tool for specific areas http://txforestservice.tamu.edu/main/article.aspx?id=12888 Edited September 7, 2011 by Unicorn
