nikkid
3yo boy is doing wonderfully on potty training but we just had a couple accidents in a row with different pairs of shoes on...I can't just pop them in the wash like the clothes. How do you make the shoes sanitary and smelling nice again? (Unfortunately they are not flip flops or crocs.) One pair of basic leather sandals that velcro-strap along the top and back. One pair light-up tennis shoes. Any one have experience with this?! Thank you! Nikki
Occasionally
I'd wash them anyway and air dry them. If he's three, he won't be in the same size for too long anyway (at least that's how my kids are/have been). I've successfully washed socks with light-up thingies on them, and leather shoes when they needed it. Congratulations on the potty learning! If they aren't fit to wear anyway, then you are losing nothing if the washer ruins them.
ByGrace3
We only wore flip flops and crocs during that time for that very reason.
Crafty Mathy Mom
You could try Nature's Miracle. It's an enzyme based spray used for pet accidents. I'm not sure I would use it on leather though. I would probably go ahead and wash the shoes. You can't use them if they smell anyway.
TXBeth
I might wash the tennis shoes in the washer, but the sandals I'd probably just rinse off and then sit out in the sun for a few hours. Unless your DS is dehydrated, they aren't really going to smell.
SailorMom
Wahing in the machine shouldn't hurt them - it's the dryer that will do that. As long as they are air-dried, you should be fine.
