Osmosis Mom
Crazy headline, do forgive me. This kid seems to need a lot of guidance before he is self-reliant. We have the software for this, but are there any available lesson plans to motivate him for a clueless mother. Dh is a structural engineer but he is super-busy. MaryM
Okay, I know nothing about this myself EXCEPT that Wiley is a publisher of all kinds of books on this. Is this what you were kinda looking for: http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0470126531.html Again, I might be off in the wrong direction completely and if so, sorry.... Michelle in AL
I saw this at Books a Million the other day and it looked very doable. It took you through designing a house step by step. http://www.amazon.com/AutoCAD-2007-LT-Bible/dp/0471788864/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211597384&sr=8-3 My dd is taking CAD and drafting through Potters school next fall. They design and draft machine parts in this class.
langfam
I'm posting on behalf of my dw. Bryce 6.0 is a CAD program that is inexpensive and easy to use. Best of all, kids love to use it. It comes with a tutorial in PDF, which you and your ds will refer to. The first lessons should be focused on learning about the working window, the tools, menus, camera controls, and so forth. Once he understands how to use the tools, allow him to play around to gain familiarity. You could then assign your ds to spend time each day working on a particular concept (creating a Boolean object, for example). He could read about the concept, and even deconstruct the preset objects to see how they went together in the first place. There are many projects he can work on. Bryce allows for a lot of creative thinking and problem solving, and I have successfully taught it to 3rd-5th grade gifted students. You can purchase it at http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=4595 Bryce comes with a poser program, Daz Studio. You can download posable objects (people, animals), but be aware that some of the people come without clothes on. I don't use the people except for the knights, which do have clothes. Check out this gallery to see what is possible to create: http://www.metasynth.com/BRYCEART/PAGES/galleryBryce.html
Osmosis Mom
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. They are certainyl different enough to have something to go on. I'll have dh look this over with me so we can see what will work for ds. Thanks a bunch.
