butterfly113
If you were trying to choose between the following two books: The Story of the Middle Ages by Samuel Harding OR The Story of Europe by H. E. Marshall Would you have a preference for one over the other?? any particular reasons why?? :bigear: :bigear: :bigear:
Another Lynn
My ds preferred Marshall's book over Harding's last year. We dropped Harding early in the fall, so I forget why exactly.... I think he felt it was too much "telling about" what happened and not as good story-telling as other history books we've enjoyed (SOTW, others). We picked up Marshall's Story of Europe (after Christmas). I read it aloud to him - which may have made it more enjoyable. It was easier to discuss along the way reading it aloud. I do vaguely remember that Marshall had a way of writing about events that helped us make connections across countries that we (or at least I) had not made before. In fact after we got it I backed us up a bit chronologically so we could read more of it and then we moved forward again. Honestly, I did not read Harding for myself, so I can't give you more comparison than that.
Karen in CO
I'd read them (or at least compare chapters from them). The Baldwin Project has them both.
