We read in the Usborne Book of World History: "Occasionally in times of great trouble, the Phoenicians sacrificed children to their gods. The burnt remains were placed in pottery urns, like these, and buried." Alexa, my 10 year old, looked horrified. She exclaimed, "They burned their own children?!
