Need ideas for my 7yo dd bday

Recommended Posts

I am sure I should know exactly what to get for my little girl, but I am at a loss! She loves to read (and be read to) and write, loves notebooks and papers, likes to paint and draw. Is not into sports at all, and is not a baby doll/toy kinda kid. She likes rocks and shells. She mentioned a Tea Cup Piggy?? and a 2 wheeled scooter....any ideas? I want something special. :glare:

My DDalmost8 has gone nuts for making bead necklaces and bracelets. Walmart has some very nice glass beads near the sewing supplies (and some pretty blah ones in the kids art dept). She's made really pretty things for her mommy and her friends. For her bday I got her several varieties of beads and some elastic bead string. :)

Your daughter sounds a lot like mine. She is 9 now and just got her first American Girl doll. She keeps it in the closet and takes it out once a month to take it to the American Girl book club. She had been going to the club for a year, not caring that she didn't have a doll, but finally started to feel left out. Her grandmother was thrilled that she finally was getting a doll, because all the baby dolls she kept giving my daughter were never played with at all. She would rather do crafts and play games, or build something, or use the computer.

My daughter loves activities, puzzles, etc. She really likes the Amercian Girl activity books.

-Mini Mysteries

-What a Girl Loves Puzzle Book

-What's So Funny

-Tear Up This Book

This is just a small list of the fun books they have. The bookstores usually have a tall, spinning rack with all the books on it. My daughter loves to get Barnes & Noble gift cards so she can go pick out a new activity book.

The craft stores also carry a lot of American Girl craft books. Oh, and the Klutz books are a huge hit here as well.

There are some good ones about making fancy lettering or doodles. Maybe your daughter would like those.*

Maybe she would like a scrapbooking kit, or also a certificate to go to a scrapbooking class for kids at one of the craft stores. Or some other kind of paper crafting kit. There are many at the craft stores.

If your daughter is asking for a scooter, that is a good choice. That was one of my daughter's fun gifts a few years ago. Don't forget a new helmet to go with it.

Other things my daughter has received and really liked.

Metal detector

Pogo stick

K'Nex

Adventures in Odyssey and Jim Weiss audio books and radio adventures on CD (we spend a lot of time in the car.)

Wooden arts & crafts organizing center (bought at Michaels)

interesting board games (the kind you have to get from a specialty store or online)

Magic tricks & books

Spy gear, fingerprinting kits, spy books,*

Science kits & Mythbusters kits

Certificate for a science or art summer camp or a class at the craft store.

Hobby Lobby had a nice kit for kids to learn how to do Chinese brush painting.

Oh, she recently got a Klutz book for making dads out of paper. She really likes it. There was another one to make bracelets out of some kind of glue paint.

Great ideas!! Thanks so much! I found a watercolors class at the local community college, and I think I will sign her up for that. Also, she got a kiddie digital camera for Christmas, but has been complaining that it is too babyish, so maybe an inexpensive, easy to use Kodak? The butterflies would be fun, or maybe ladybugs. She recently found some tadpoles in a pond, so we are now raising those into frogs. Thanks so much for the great ideas!:grouphug:
