Daisy
Has anyone read The Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson as a read-aloud? I'm considering it for my 4th grader and 7th grader in the fall. Does it lend itself well to reading aloud? Do you know of a good audio version? Just trying to get some idea of whether it will work. AK_Mom4
We have this audio version. I'm not too fond of her voice (you can listen to the sample), but that's mostly a matter of taste. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Arrow-Robert-Louis-Stevenson/dp/1400100038 If you do it as a read-aloud, make sure you don't give up just because the first chapter or so is confusing. It gets WAY better as the story goes along. Some things are a bit intense. DS was in 7th or 8th grade when he and I read it. Your 4th grader may be fine with it as a read-aloud as long as they don't get scard with intense scenes (nothing gross - just intense action)
mcconnellboys
Some of the vernacular language was a little difficult for me at first, but it either smoothed out or I got used to it, LOL, and we went through it without difficulty....
nmoira
Does it lend itself well to reading aloud? If you've already read aloud Stevenson or a fair bit of Pyle, it's a piece of cake.
