Lisabeth
What materials have you used already? Is he in regular curriculums for school subjects and does he just move faster through them? I have a gifted child and we just let her move fast through the curriculum. When she was done (and mastered it) we moved on to the next level. She wasn't gifted in all areas so she stll struggled in writing. We had to work and still work with her in that area.
Dmmetler
Would he enjoy a programming language, like Scratch or Alice? My 6 yr old can spend HOURS writing her own games in Scratch.

....
When mine are finished with school, the 9 yro really enjoys the What Your 4th Grader Needs to Know book. It has a bunch of poetry, short stories, excerpts from famous fiction, artwork, some art history, science, history, music, etc. She especially likes to read the poetry and short stories. I've had her do some logic stage writing assignments from this book.
