momto2Cs
You might look at the movies on this list. I'm not sure how age appropriate they would be, but it seems a good starting place.
Dana
I've got a 3rd grader and we're watching some of Ken Burn's Civil War series. It's a stretch for him (attention span and topics). One rough photo in episode one was of limbs that had been amputated. The Civil War is tough. I don't know that there are going to be many appropriate movies. You could check Discovery Streaming if you have it.
kalanamak
Good clean fun: The General with Buster Keaton. Love the train.
Chris in VA
See if you can find the Wishbone TV series--the episode where the kids are going to perform some African American folk tales is really good, and has a slave-related one. Also, not a film, but a website--The American Girl website has some games and online activities for Addy, who starts out as a slave in the books.
