cjbeach
I have 10 yo ASD guy currently going through a butterfly obsession (bit of a change from the recent lunar tracking obsession). Luckily we live in FL so we're sllooowwwwwwwllly building a butterfly garden. I would like to get him one of the butterfly kits. Carolina Science labs has a few kits I think he'll like.http://www.carolina.com/category/living+organisms/animals/butterflies.do?KickerID=int_f_hom_btrfly Just wondering if anyone can recommend a kit they had success with? Thanks so much! Kathy (and Butterfly Boy) Edited April 10, 2011 by cjbeach sorry, missed an entire sentence?
djsmom
We had great success with this butterfly garden from Insect Lore: http://www.amazon.com/Insect-Lore-Live-Butterfly-Garden/dp/B00000ISC5/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1302401363&sr=1-
twoxcell
I've used the insect lore ones, and right now I have one from Walmart that is very similar.

cjbeach
Awesome! Thank you (thought I think adding it to my wishlist just pushed my wish list up to 20 pages). :001_smile:
blessdmommy
We have an insect lore kit going right now. The caterpillars are so big and I think any day now they will make their chrysalises. We've done butterflies before but this year we also added in a praying mantis kit.
Satori
We used Insect Lore kit successfully as well. That was a few years ago. We're learning about butterflies this week, and having a blast. It is too early for us to order new butterflies where we live this month though. Have fun with your butterfly garden! I tried growing flowers for our hummingbirds and butterflies. It said it would take them a year to actually start growing, hope they come this year.
iona
Another vote for insect lore though i haven't tried anything else. All 5 of our butterflies have now emerged from their chrysalides. The boys loved checking on them each day.
DawnL
We have also done the kit from Insect Lore and it was a blast. I would like to do tadpoles this year. I'll have to see what we can come up with. My dd was admiring the Praying Mantis kit, too, but we wouldn't be able to catch food for them. LolaT
Also did the Insect Lore kit. Probably didn't need to get this large of one. It had ten larvae. They're in the adult butterfly stage now. It's been really neat.
jelbe5
Another satisfied Insect Lore customer here. We successfully used the butterfly garden 2 times and plan to do it again in the very near future!
