HELP! How do you get Sharpie marker off a wall?

Recommended Posts

My 3yo just drew on the walls in the hallway with a Sharpie (I don't know how she got it!!!) I tried one of those Magic Eraser sponges and that took a lot of it off but it is still there - it looks really faded now. If I scrub hard enough to take the marker off the paint starts coming with it. I also tried hairspray in one spot (works great on regular ink) and that didn't do anything...

Any suggestions?

Cover with Kilz, then repaint. Sorry, that's the only thing I can think of at this point.

Sorry to say I don't have any advice but wanted to tell you my ds4 did the same thing when he was 2. I have no idea how he got ahold of the sharpie but he found it and decorated our hallway. My dh had to scrub really hard with the magic eraser, it pretty much came off but took some of the paint with it. You can still see the lines from the sharpie, but at least it's not black anymore. One day we will get around to painting over it, along with all the other walls that are full of fingerprints.

Checking the sharpie web site was a good idea, but they only had some general ideas for getting stains out of clothes - nothing about walls:crying: Although it did say that it is best to treat the stain while it is fresh.

I'm going to try rubbing alchohol, but I think that is kind of the same as hairspray so I'm not holding my breath... I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks

Try rubbing alcohol.
