Rosie_0801
Has anyone read these? I'm a non-Christian gathering ideas of resources to use to teach religion. I'm looking for "this is what the Bible has to say for itself" not "this is how you personally should behave." Wondering if these are suitable. I've only read the reviews on Amazon, which aren't very detailed, so I'd appreciate any comments. Cheers, Rosie
Night Elf
My children aren't particularly religious and we have loved the Scripture Sleuth series. They are more mystery-like than Christian, IMHO. They kind of remind me of Encyclopedia Brown. The only difference is that Concord's inspiration for finding clues and solving the cases is the Bible. They are not preachy at all. Just fun reads. I can't see how they could be used as part of religion study though. They don't necessarily talk about the Bible. Concord just mentions verses he used to solve crimes. Of course it's been a while since I read them. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to get those back out!

Kate in Arabia
Do they kind of portray an observant Christian lifestyle? There are a couple of series I know of with Muslim central characters that aren't "religious", but you get a lot of cultural info indirectly as far as living as an observant Muslim, kwim? I wish they had that kind of thing for other faiths, like an Orthodox Jewish kid, Pagan kid, or a Hindu kid, etc. For the ones I'm thinking of, for example, the main character is solving a mystery, but you see his day to day life and can learn some about the faith that way, kwim? Not really. The story is all about the mystery--very much like Encyclopedia Brown. You don't really see anything about his faith. He just seems like a normal, American, kid
Rosie_0801
That's a bummer! The amazon reviews gave the idea that it was a fun way of getting to know your Bible. Maybe it's a fun thing if you already know it well. Thanks for the input. Rosie
Night Elf
Here is a link to a sample chapter. Each chapter is a different mystery. http://www.scripturesleuth.com/samplechapter.html
