Jennifer
This is my 8yo's first narration (I don't know if they narrated in school, so this is her first homeschool narration...). I read D'Aulaire's Christopher Columbus aloud to her and asked her to tell me the story in her own words. "Christopher Columbus was a little boy in Italy. His father was a weaver, but he wanted to be a sailor. His friends laughed at him because he thought the earth was round. He sailed around Italy. One day he asked the King of Portugal for money to sail ships to China and India. The king laughed at him and said it couldn’t be done. So Christopher Columbus went to the King and Queen of Spain asked for money to sail a ship to China They said they had no money because their country was at war. After the King and Queen gave him money Christopher Columbus set out for China. He said he could sail West to get East. The trip across the ocean was long. Columbus didn’t give up. Columbus sailed a few more times but didn’t reach China." I really don't know how to judge it. Long enough? Enough detail? I did have to remind her to use complete sentences, but other than that I typed just what she narrated to me. Thanks in advance! Mom-ninja.
She remembered a lot of detail. :) My boys love long narrations. It's hard for them to narrow it down which is what we're working on in WWE.
