mom2denj
I am using this next year with my K'er. I am very interested in the Elemental Science curriculum. Is the Science for K in HOD beefy enough? I have not purchased The World God Made yet because I am undecided. My dd loves hands on stuff. What do you think? sbgrace
I'd go ahead and add the science. I don't think you'll regret that. The HOD is pretty simple (I didn't find the book added anything personally). Enough science for K is relative to how much a person thinks is needed at that age! That said, to dig into science I think you'd be happy with the additional program.
dsmama
I used Elemental science w/Little Hearts last year. It worked great for us and fit better with what I wanted to accomplish for the year.
RachelFlores
Definently add science. We add extra science experiments throughout the week, but not with a specific program. It's working just fine, but if I started over again I would add a true science program. You also *might* want to add art. There are very fun art/craft activities every week that really help my dd remember the lessons, but it is not art instruction, nor art appreciation. I've decided to put that off till 1st grade right now, but I origionally thought it was part of the program.
RachelFlores
Forgot to say, one of the BEST things about LHFHG imho, is that you CAN add a little more here and there and not feel overwhelmed or that it is too much for a kindergartener (or their teacher). MamaHappy
The science in LHFHG is very gentle and is scheduled twice per week. IIRC, it usually involves a simple activity/experiment and reading 1-2 pages out of the CLP book. If you're looking for something with a lot more "meat" then the science in LHFHG probably won't satisfy you. :)
mom2denj
Thank you all so much! I really appreciate your feedback! Off to order Elemental Science...........
jer2911mom
I am using LHFHG this year and I also wish I had added a science program. Science in LHFHG is extremely light if your child has any interest in science whatsoever. I added art and music appreciation as well as more read-alouds through Memoria Press' K program. I also do their poetry and recitation. It rounds out LHFHG nicely in those areas, and isn't too much to do time-wise. Their guide is very reasonably priced and I get the read-alouds at the library for the most part.
