laurad1125
I have always graded a sentence diagram as right or wrong. Either you got the whole thing right or you didn't. DS12 is getting into some pretty complex diagrams now and it seems harsh to count the entire diagram wrong because he got two adverbs, one of which modifies the other, backwards. How do you grade diagrams?

NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
Each word is graded, the lines that divide the subject from predicate is graded, all modifiers, prepositions. Each diagrammed sentence ends up being worth 10+ points.
laurad1125
Thanks! What I did last night was assign 2-3 points for each diagram. 1 point for the subject and its modifiers, 1 for the verb and its modifiers and one for predicate adjective/nominative or direct object and its modifiers if the sentence had one. I may move to the 1 point per word system though.
angela in ohio
When I graded for R&S in the early years, I did 1-2 points each. Now I use diagrams independently for grammar study, and I give them 8-10, and they are worth 5 pts each. I just divide it in my head into parts and take off 1-2 points for a wrong part.
