kalanamak
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smile_Train We got a donation request in the mail with some straight forward before and after photos. My son took quite an interest and I suggested we each put a dime a day in a piggy bank for it. Anyone have any dirt on this charity? Annie G
My brother in law used to raise money for this charity (he had a harelip and cleft palate himself) and after he died (surfing accident), his employer adopted the charity and holds an annual golf tournament to raise money for them. I hope they're legit!
Mejane
We sponsor a surgery every year and have done so for years. Here's the BBB rating: http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/human-services/smile-train-in-new-york-ny-644 They are fairly aggressive in their marketing (mostly direct mailing). Some people have an issue with the CEO making over $400K. If you go to the website, you can see all the business leaders/celebs that endorse and support it (fwiw). http://www.smiletrain.org/site/PageServer Edited December 10, 2010 by Mejane
mytwomonkeys
we have a pickle jar on my kitchen island with the smiletrain ad glued to it. all of our spare change and extra dollar bills go there. my kids are always thinking of ways to get extra change and money to fill the jar. it's really been a wonderful experience here!!
