ktgrok
If I forgot about my SCOBY and left it in a jar on the counter for a few weeks, would it still work to make kombucha? Or should I toss it? Hypothetically of course.....I certainly am not so absentminded as to do such a thing. Sigh, who are we kidding. There is a reason I don't have house plants and avoid friendship bread like the plague.
Jean in Newcastle
I would worry about mold possibly growing on it.
ktgrok
I think the longer it sits the more vinegary it gets so mold probably isn't a problem. It will need to eat though so I'd give it a fresh tea w/sugar and two cups of the tea it's in and see if it'll reproduce. I forgot about mine all the time. It seems like the really big ones don't make kombucha as fast as a well kept one. I finally gave up and tossed mine because I was the only one drinking it and I kept forgetting about it. Good luck. It's pretty much dried out....I had drained off most of the kombucha, then set it aside to make more tea later that day. then forgot about it.
