Delighted3
If your child could read the chapter and get a good grade on the test without doing the written work, would you let them or would you make them do the OYO questions and the study guide? Any reasons behind your opinion would be helpful too :) Thanks for your opinions. Joy
Excelsior! Academy
I read the on your own to my daughters and make them answer orally because I like to know their comprehension along the way. I also have them write out the answers to the study guide because I think it is a good practice for them. The one test they failed I had them write the paragraph study guide. They have passed every test since then, and not complained about the work. It is my opinion that the study guide, looking up, and writing the answers are a good skill for my daughters to learn. You might pose this question on the high school board. You would probably get more answers.
Excelsior! Academy
Okay, after reading your signature line I am feeling really silly for giving you advice. My oldest is only 13. What are your opinions?
Kates
It depends on how they learn. My ds is dyslexic and dysgraphic, so I allow him to do a lot of things orally (or type them out) - he just plain doesn't learn by free writing. If he can explain it, he knows it. There are subjects I have him handwrite, this just isn't one of them.
