ProudGrandma
My 6 year old son is just beginning to read (short vowel sounds and a few beginning blends) and I want to find some good early phonics books for him that don't look "babyish"...as he puts it. He puts the I See Sam books in that category. can anybody here guide me to a set or two that might work for him. He is the last of 3 kids and is VERY aware of the fact that the older two are...well...older and he doesn't want to be a baby. thanks. ProudGrandma
I can't believe that there aren't any other options "out there"...what am I to use to meet the needs of my son who wants to read books and yet, can't read most books and also wants to be a "big kid"? Sherry in OH
Some public libraries have collections of beginning readers. If your library has such a collection, you could browse to see which of the many series seems most suitable.
jewel7123
We've enjoyed the Molly Coxe books....Cat Traps, Big Egg. Have you tried those?
Tonia
I'd use the library. I kept a list of books that my dd used when she was reading at that stage (and I found all these books at the library). You should be able to find some early reader books at your library. Mom2Tess&Gus
My 6yo son is at the same place. He is loving a series of non-fiction books on Ocean Life. The publisher is Pebble Books. http://www.capstone-press.com We are just finding these at the library...no need to spend anymore than we already do, right? I noticed this once a while back, and wish they would fix it.

Thank you so much for this list! You just saved me so much searching time! Free from the library is always so wonderful. We used and liked the McRuffy K Readers. For 1st grade now, my ds only wants to read library easy readers because they seem like 'real books' and not controlled readers.;)
