Stacy in NJ
Ds is taking Algebra online with Potter's School. So far, only one class in - mind you, I'm not liking the text. I've heard wonderful things about the teacher, but the text seems way to abstract. Ds completed the first 7 chapters in Foester's last year, and while it was challenging, he found it completely doable. This text seems like a whole 'nother animal. I choose to have him take this class more for the experience of having outside accountability away from mom. Any opinions on the text??? Chris in VA
Giving a bump-- I remember there being a concensus a long while back (maybe old boards?) about this program being on the No list! But, it's just a faint memory--not sure why, either.
DebbS
My son used this text for his Algebra 1 class through IUHS. It is not a good text for self-learning. I had to go through each lesson with him and often presented the material differently than the text presented it. This is not a highly rated text even amongst public schools. There is much better materials out there.
Barb_
It has been called New-New Math, Constructivist Math, and Fuzzy Math. My daughter tutored in a classroom that used UCSMP's Everyday Math. I don't know anything about the Algebra program but her advice would be to run away quickly if it is anything like the elementary stuff. http://www.city-journal.org/html/eon_3_7_03mc.html
