Science behind pool and creek water?

Recommended Posts

We have been swimming in the outdoor pool at the YMCA this summer and have been in natural water a few times this year (river, lake or creek). But yesterday we went to another creek that has a swimming area about 8 feet deep. The kids were swinging out with a rope and jumping in. They came to me and said this water is different than the Y! It feels like jello or something is not letting us plunge all the way down like the Ymca water when jumping off the diving board.

Now, I was thinking and was wondering could it be because of the algae and natural things in the water? It was not dirty and it is moving water - very cold. I have never heard them say anything like that before. Now I am wondering if this is a good science opportunity or should I never take them back because maybe there is JELLO in the water???
