momto2Cs
I keep looking at books from A Book in Time, and wondering if I really need a spine? Has anyone done history without one?
my2boysteacher
I don't think you need one. I'm writing my own American History curriculum based on different books and activities to go along with them. I did look at a history encyclopedia to get a feel for what I wanted to cover and make sure I had dates right, but that is as much as we'll use it for. NanceXToo
Am I the only one who doesn't even know what this post means?
Veritaserum
A "spine" is a main book that you match with projects and supplemental books. For example, we use The Story of the World as our history spine for grammar stage (gr. 1 - 4). I'm stumped on what to use (if anything) for Logic Stage, but I need to figure it out soon because dd will be in 5th doing Ancients in a few months. I may end up just using an encyclopedia and lots of living books (non-textbooks)....
MerryAtHope
Have you looked at Truthquest? That guide is just booklists, and you can choose to use a spine or not use a spine (the author is a children's librarian and homeschooler & knows tons and tons of books, and her preferred method is w/o a spine).
