has anyone tried both MEP and MM?

Recommended Posts

MM:

- easier to use, no flipping.

- almost independent.

- mastery. Chapters can be used in almost any order.

MEP:

- mostly teacher-dependent.

- spiral with mastery. IT's better used in order.

- lots of puzzles and weird problems.

I use MM to explain a concept, then use MEP for enrichment.

thanks! I purchased MM bc/ it seemed less teacher-intensive. But MEP is so appealing! And I own and love RS. Man, I am such a junky!

I own RS, too. ALl five of them, and MoTL. They're sitting on my bookshelves, unused. I still can't sell them, just in case, you know ...

Anyway, I've used MM for two years now, so I'm pretty much settled. MM makes it easy and painless to teach conceptual math to my children. I supplement MM with unique problems (the ones with lots of < and >, as well as logic puzzles) from MEP.

We are just switching to MM from Saxon, and intend to supplement with MEP. I really like what I see with MM, but even the author encourages supplementing it with CWP or other thinking problems. I think MEP will fit the bill as it takes a puzzle approach to problem solving, my son loves it already, and it's free. Bonus, bonus, bonus!
