lisabees
I recently got a crockpot, so my boys can easily help with cooking.;) I am not up on crockpot cooking myself. Anyway, I made my own sauce today. It is still simmering in the crockpot. Can I dump the pasta and meatballs in there, so I don't use any more pots? If so, does it matter when I throw it in there? Will the pasta get mushy if it's in there too long? It is cheese tortellini. Thanks! UPDATE: The pasta turned out fine! I used Buitoni (?) fresh tortellini. And I left in the crockpot for about 20 minutes. It's perfect. I don't think regular uncooked pasta would work at all. ;) Edited June 7, 2010 by lisabees
ProudGrandma
I don't know for sure, but if the sauce is really hot, I can't imagine it would be a whole lot different than if the sauce was on the stove top and you added the pasta...just to be on the safe side this first time, I would check the pasta often to see how fast it cooked. Hope that helps a little and I hope that if I am wrong, someone else will chime in quickly.

kdeno
and never had success :tongue_smilie: It gets starchy, smooshy and gross. Kariann
ProudGrandma
are you making the frozen tortellini or is it hard pasta....if it is cooked a nd frozen, I think the crockpot would work...but I agree that hard pasta doesn't cook well in the crockpot...does that make sense? Maddysmom26
No.. it will turn to mushhh acck! Definately cook the pasta seperately. Pasta has to be boiled quickly.. or it gets starchy and mushy. ;)
lisabees
Aaack! I figured no one else would respond, so I ran downstairs to throw the pasta in. Oh well, I'll cook it quickly. Live and learn! I was just starting to like this crockpot idea, too!

SquirrellyMama
I just saw this thread and your update. I've made my pasta in my sauce in the crock pot many times. It is a great time saver. I'm glad your pasta worked out also. Kelly
mcconnellboys
Whenever I've tried to do rice dishes in there they have come out very, very sticky (but maybe if I watched it and removed after a short time that wouldn't happen, LOL.....)
