My son's essay made me cry. **brag alert**

Recommended Posts

This is the child, my eldest, who has *hated* writing from the start. He has resisted much of my effort to teach him to write, and I've sort of given up at this point. But we decided together that he needed to learn some college-level writing skills, and since he will be away next year as an exchange student, English 101 had to be this spring.

The assignement was to write a persuasive 5 paragraph essay about soemthing they observed on the campus. It's hardly an inspiring topic and I could really understand how any kid might struggle with the assignment.

What he came up with was about missing the beauty around oneself by being too caught up in whatever is happening at the moment. It just put me into tears-he has SO much to say, and so much that really seems worthwhile. But he's a quiet guy a lot of the time. Truly, still waters run deep.
