Caribbean Queen
I am looking for a reader to suggest for an adult reading class. Do you know of any books written on a first grade reading level that an adult might like? Ideally the book would be thick because why pay $5.99 for a book with a few sentences which can easily be memorized? Ideally the book would not be about witches, fairies, or the changing of the seasons (spring, fall and snow).
Chris in VA
I don't have a suggestion, but here's a website about adult literacy that lets you plug in what you are looking for and spits out titles of trade books. HTH
elegantlion
Landmark Biographies might be an option. There are some written at a 2nd grade reading level, some at a 4th grade. This company also publishes non-fiction books for all reading levels. They have a nice catalog. For fiction, that will be more difficult. Here are a few of the series we've used in the past: Henry & Mudge Mr. Putter & Tabby Little Bear books Here's another series I found on amazon but know nothing about them. New Books for New Readers. Here's a website about the publisher. It appears these are designed for adult literacy purposes. They are at about a 4th grade reading level.
