Pip
Being naturally suspicious people, why didn't dh and I think of this? We bought dd some Star Trek vhs tapes at the library book sale. Didn't think to preview them, They are professionally made, right? DH went to work and a co-worker said people have been known to put their personal videos on these tapes and return them to the library. Depending on how often the library loans them out, it could be years before this is discovered. And, of course, many of the items at the sale did not even come from the library system. People donated them.
ConnieB
So are you saying that videos you purchased had some guy's birthday party on it or something? I'm not sure I understand your post...what was on the tapes if it wasn't the labeled movie?
thescrappyhomeschooler
I think she's saying something like what happened to my cousin. She bought a Little People video at a garage sale for her toddlers. She put it in for them to watch and went in the kitchen to do the dishes. She eventually realized that some weird sounds (like huffing and puffing and groaning and moaning) were coming from the living room. Her toddlers were sitting there watching a porno! Boy, was she mad. I think she even called a lawyer to see if there was anything she could do about it!

I'm a petite person but I think I might have gone fist to cuffs with the garage sale people over that! What is wrong with people?!?!

Dmmetler
DVDs should be safer than video tapes on that account-they're "Write once", so someone would have to actually substitute the disc in such a way that it wasn't visually apparent that it was the wrong one for it to work. The same applied to audio tapes vs CDs, but with CDs, there's little risk.
