diaperjoys
We've been using 1st grade, and it requires a good deal of guidance (not that that is a bad thing for that age). My 6yo needs me to sit down with him at every lesson, and we go over the lesson, practice the new concepts, make sure he knows what spelling words the picture is trying to get him to write, etc. What grade does CLE become more independent for the student? Pip
The lowest level we have used is 4th, and that was pretty independent.
MIch elle
but that depends on what you consider independent. I orally ask 5 spelling words/day, review key flash cards, and discuss previous things I think my ds will forget with CLE LA 7 at the beginning of every lesson which takes ~10 minutes. dsacco
We are in 4th and my dd doesn't it pretty much on her own. We don't do the spelling quiz part though because we are using spelling power.
JenAL
We are using CLE 3rd now & my dd does most of it independently. I go over the new concept with her each day & then she's able to complete everything else on her own. Of course, I'm here if she has any questions. And we review her work when it's completed. rdolphingirl
Well... IMO that largely depends on the child my oldest (who is a very late bloomer) just finished up 2nd grade using mostly CLE and was doing it all quite independently (with of course help once in awhile if he got stuck). However he is 11, so I am sure that has something to do with it. (though some days I have trouble remembering he is 11 due to his immaturity and delays :glare:) No matter what curriculum you use 1st grade is more teacher intensive just because they can't read well yet (most the time anyway) and need more help learning. There is a big ... I mean huge ... difference IMO in what a 2nd grader can do independently. However some children do better then others at being independent *sigh* I would say as soon as the child can read well they should be able to do most of the work on their own, if they are mature enough. ~Rachel
DJgang
We use 2nd grade Language...it can easily be independent but my kid :glare: So I would say 2nd grade.
skaterbabs
By the latter half of the 100 level, Dot was working pretty much independently. We're almost finished the 100 level and I basically just go over the instructions for each section and let her get to it.
TracyR
The consensus seems to be as low as 2nd grade. Of course your child may vary. At least beginning in the third grade.
