THIS!!! ...... this very problem is why I choose to use Biblioplan! I love MOH , but I also didn't like how it jumps all over the place ;) Biblioplan pulls it all together, still tied in with the Bible stories, in mostly chronological order, but by area :D I purchased an older version of Biblioplan, so I don't have the current ed. with all the new extra stuff. I only have the plan pages, the timeline pages, the maps, and the coloring pages (I don't care for those much as I've found much better ones online) HTH!!!

First off .... I wouldn't say you NEED it ... but .. its got a TON of videos made for children on a lot of topics! No, the quality isn't the best on some of them, but so far (in just a few days of using it) we have watching a LOT of history related vids, a few science ones, found a few series we love ( Reading Rainbow , Prototype This , Magic School Bus , etc ) My boys LOVE to watch even short vids, it really helps "cement" what we are reading about. One thing I love so far is there are NO ads, and I don't need to worry about them clicking something totally inappropiate! You can narrow your searches by grades and or by media type , they have audio only files , and pictures , as well as videos ... some even have Teacher's Guides and or worksheets/tests that you can use as well! I'm pretty careful (paranoid?) about what I will let my boys use online, but I would be comfortable turning them loose with this site. However I've enjoyed watching most of it myself! .. We are doing ancient history this year and have found a LOT of very age appropiate and interesting videos on anceint egypt! HTH!!

Hi there :) I've used CLE math for 1st - 5th with my oldest boy and your totally right as the 2nd grade year goes forward more and more of the teaching is IN the student LU and less is required of the teacher/parent :) In all grades (above 1st of course ;) ) the first x01 unit of Math is review from the prior year, just to make sure a child is ready for the new grade. If you are schooling year round you could skip that unit. My son likes doing it because of the special "fun" activites :) If you liked CLE for 1st grade you should love it for 2nd grade ;) ... you can look at a sample for each unit on the CLE website, only 201 should be "quite a bit different" .. by the end of 2nd grade a student can be doing it nearly completely on their own. I loved that with my oldest because my middle boy is special needs and took/takes a LOT of my time and attention! HTH!

We use CLE here ... and love it! However in the lower grades (1st-5th) Bible is only 5 Lightunits , so 1/2 a year worth ... made to do 2-3 days a week. Never used or even seen ACE, so can't comment there :) HTH!!

I splurged for my oldest this year and got him this one ... and bought the CD set that has all the figures for all of history on it! ... between them it was over $100 .. *choke,sputter,gasp!* However it was what HE wanted, and I am actually jealous, its GORGEOUS! I think what you choose to use for a timeline would depend on several things .. What you can afford (of course) What level your child(ren) are at What your using for History and I'm sure theres more ... lol For my little guys I'm using the Bibiolplan timeline pages .. its a copy/paste .. premade pages with figures that go in marked spots. Since they are both still young this is great for them. They both asked to do a timeline since my oldest is. .. . lol HTH!! :)

My oldest started cursive at almost 8 ... I printed off a few free sheets from learningpage ... then used this book : http://www.amazon.com/Daily-Handwriting-Practice-Contemporary-Cursive/dp/155799756X/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371699555&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=even+moore+cursive He and I both really liked it ... the lines are big enough without being too big .. for him anyway :)

I will second this one .... this is what I have !! I had an older brother that I used for several years, when it quit working I decided to upgrade instead of trying to fix it. I got this one about 8-10 mths ago I think it was and its worked great. Very easy to use, and even if you buy brand name ink (which I recomend for the color ones) its not very expensive :) I've not used it to print on CDs , but it does do everything you wanted :)

I say use whatever works best, for the child, and for you. I have 3 boys, between them they are using 4 different programs for maths (special needs middle boy has 2) My middle boy does best with mastery, my oldest did good with mastery for 1st grade, and has done great with spiral since. My little one has gotten bored with mastery 1/2 way through 1st , so he got switched to spiral. I love being able to throw out what doesn't work, or even replace stuff that is working ok, and change it up when I feel it will help :D

I'm NOT in my first year ... or even first 2-3 years ... and a LOT of the "what we are doing/did for x grade" posts would totally overwhelm me and my boys! That being said, neither I nor my boys are highly academic or even "normal" *grin* My last little guy (a late bloomer who is still struggling to learn to read at 9!) will be about 2nd grade by fall .. hopefully anyway! I fully intend to school year round, but things always seem to happen .. (like moving in Dec!) Here is my current plan : Math - CLE 200/300 as we get to it , hes in 105 now :) Reading - hopefully CLE 2 , presuming we get his troubles sorted LA - also hopefully CLE 2 History - tagging along with the older - Biblioplan/MOH/SOTW Science - hopefully back into Apologia, Botany is up next and .. that is IT! ... I don't try to cover more then that at this level :) As the PP said I try to get them OUTSIDE to play at least an hour or so most days ... depending on weather .. I also have a "rebounder" (mini trampoline) in the corner of the living room I use when they get too rowdy inside ;) One thing I have learned reading on here .... homeschoolers are a varied lot! ... from those who unschool, to those who "do school" mostly like a classroom ... and of course all of us somewhere inbetween! As long as your child is learning, growing, healthy and mostly happy I believe they are doing well, even if they are not doing work thats "levels" above/below where a child of their age would be in public school!!

Could anyone give an update on this? I am considering ordering it for my oldest, I have a couple of the old version workbooks I found, hes been doing them but this looks much more fun and a lot easier then the workbooks :D TIA !

Have you looked at CLE ? Depending on what your looking for it might fit the bill ... my boys love them :) However from 1st-6th its only 5 lightunits worth (1/2 a year, or not done daily) My oldest is currently doing an extra set they have in their elective section : http://www.clp.org/store/by_course/161 It is on the early church (Jesus’ ascension thru Revelations) .. the 500 set begins a study of the OT that is continued in 600 .. WOW ... so many people doing Alg for 6th grade! I have a way laid back, got a late start, possibly on the ASD side ds who is very late tracking ... so we are halfway through 5th at 14 with him ... will be starting 6th hopefully this fall ... now schooling nearly year round here is my current 6th grade plan : LA - CLE 6 Reading - CLE 6 & maybe 7 Math - TT6 (we are switching to TT next week, going to have him run through 5 doing double lessons and see how it goes) History - MoH & SotW (going to be starting vol 1 next week, so hopefully vol 2 by fall) Science - R&S 6 & 7 Logic - still looking around .. but like how Fallacy Detective & Thinking Toolbox look Bible - CLE maybe .. not sure yet Even though hes a teen now I feel hes just entering into logic .. and hes doing well learning at the level hes working on :) We both like the look of the Google Earth book mentioned earlier on this thread! So far I've not done much logic or critical thinking ... but we like the look of the books mentioned here so we might get those started before 6th :)
