MeganW
Is almost-5 years old too young to enjoy the SOTW audio? Will they be able to follow & understand the subjects at that age?
StephanieZ
Probably a bit young, but might enjoy SOTW1. The books get progressively more advanced, as they are geared for Gr 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
brownie
My ds5 screams when we try to put it on in the car :) DS7 and DS9 enjoy it though...esp ds 9 who voluntarily listens to it. Then again ds5 screams whenever we put any long chapter books on in the car! Brownie
SonshineLearner
My son doesn't ask to listen to it.... I do have the Diana Waring cds which have a young activity book to go with it... Jim Weiss, the reader of SOTWcds... has some incredible cds which might be more to your children's liking right now... :-)
susankenny
My dc didn't care for SOTW on cd at age 5. However, they did enjoy books from storynory.com for fun. We also love "Your Story Hour" Heritage of our Country cd, and I think it is much more age appropriate for a 5 year old than SOTW (in my humble opinion of course, but all kids are different:)). mtollie
My dd has loved listening to the CDs this year (she's 5.5 now so started right about 5). We listen to them over and over and over...until they get "lost" for a couple of weeks. I'm sure it just depends on the kid.
Cindyg
I, too, think it's a bit young. I think a 5YO might have trouble with even the concept of people living thousands of years ago. And they might have trouble following the stories or comprehending the point of them. Personally, for a 5YO, I'd stick with lap books--picture books read by you in your lap. (And those of us whose kids are long ago too big for that will be jealous of you.) Then try SOTW at age six. My son has loved audio books all of his school years. But SOTW might not be the best very first one. It's just a little abstract (for a 5YO). You might start your son off on an audio story about something he can picture or something he has experienced. Maybe even an audio of a book he's already very familiar with. My son is in the 6th grade this year, and we're re-listening to SOTW 1 for the first time since he was in the first grade. He doesn't remember hearing the stories before. But that's actually OK. He "knows" a lot of the content (even without remember where he learned it).
