CathyinNC
I'm looking for short fiction books set in early American history that are appropriate for a 5th grade boy. Any recommendations?
LibraryLover
Off the top of my head: The Captive by Joyce Hansen (An African child taken captive and brought as a slave to Salem and his eventual escape to freedom) Stranded at Plimouth Plantation By Bowen This might be on the lighter readins side for a 5th grader, but it's a good story. The Fighting Ground by Avi (Revolutionary War) Avi has a boatload of historical fiction. My Brother Sam is Dead (by Collier?) ETA: Might want to check out the Dear America series, although depending on your child's interests and reading levels, some might consider these books to be 'easy' reads. zaichiki
Try the read alouds from Sonlight's Core 3. Most are probably available at your library. :) http://www.sonlight.com/3CX5.html Click on "57 items" for a list of titles.
