  1. Wherever you left it (in answer to Where is my ...) You can control how other people act but you can control how you react! (usually said to the mountain-out-of-a-molehill guy)
  2. I have to take this opportunity to brag on my dh. He wasn't with me the first time my van had a flat tire. I pulled over and broke out the owner's manual to figure out where all the components were to change the tire. There, on the page of the manual, was a little love/encouragement note. He apologized for not being with me and said he knew I could do it. It just made the whole ordeal turn into a non-ordeal. Gotta love him!
  3. I second the Home Depot and Lowes idea. They have great programs. Also, Webelos Cub Scouts have a Craftsman activity badge that invovles making useful projects out of different materials, including wood. If you search Cub Scout Craftsman project ideas, you get a ton of hits with age appropriate projects. Here's one: http://www.stilesdesigns.com/toolbox.html Good luck and have fun!
  4. I haven't tried South Beach or Atkins. Just counting calories and exercising has bee working for me. Also, I have found that the Alli product works in terms of keeping you honest on your diet. It has really unpleasant side effects if you eat too much fat in your diet so it helps me to resist temptation and it blocks some of the fat I consume to boot! I hope you find something that works for you! Good luck! Cathy
  5. I have mine in an aquarium. We just change out the water from the pond every week or so. We got some frog/tadpole pellets from petsmart. Make sure you put a rock or some way for them to get out of the water once they start to breathe air or else they drown! Also, I wouldn't worry about the snails too much. They should actually help to keep your tank clean! Hope all goes well!
  6. Any complete curriculum recommendations for the organizationally challenged mother of a soon to be 6th grader?
  7. Thank you for the idea:) but my snag is that I only have a desktop computer and it's in a different room than the tv. I'm willing to get the wireless modem for the computer if there's a gizmo that you can hook to your tv that will pick up the signal from the computer and put it on screen. Does such a thing exist (and function well)?
  8. I have been considering disconnecting our cable. It would be a better thing for my family overall and I know that most of the shows that I like can be viewed online. However, it wouldn't be very comfortable, when I get a break, to sit and watch a show while sitting at the computer desk. I want to somehow connect our tv and computer so that I can watch the show from the internet on the tv screen. Does anyone have a setup like I am describing? What is involved in making the connection?
  9. :iagree: I love the movie but there is a fair amount of violence. It might be a bit much for little ones who are prone to nightmares.
  10. I'm there with you! It is very draining to have to/want to do so much for the members of our families and for people in general. There are definitely times when I dream of a place where nobody talks to me or asks me for anything. Someplace where I don't have to take other people into consideration every time I make a decision. Someplace where I can just sit and think and have an interrupted thought, or even better, an uninterrupted nap! Try taking a walk in the woods or hide somewhere with a book and your favorite beverage! Hope you feel better soon!
  11. Woohoo! Found just the right one! Thanks for the help!
  12. I need to look up some extended stay type hotels in the Birmingham, AL area and all I can come up with is Extended Stay America. Anyone know of any other chains I can check? Thanks! Cathy
  13. LOL! My kids love watching me play that level! By the time my turn is over, they are literally on the floor with tears streaming down their cheeks because my poor Mii has been with wrecking balls, flattened, and jumped off cliffs! Even I can admit, it's a hoot!
  14. I hit the same thing in my area. After I went in and they did their sales pitch designed to hook the child, they presented me with the sum of $120 per month with a six month contract!!! Plus there's a $60 fee every time they graduate to different belt levels. Yikes! I eventually found a registered instructor who leased out floor space at a local gymnastics center and he was $75 per month, no contract.
  15. My oldest was an early riser at age 2. We put a digital clock in his room and put a post it over the minutes numbers but made sure the hour number was still visible. We wrote a number seven, duplicating the style of the digital clock, and told him he could come out of his room every moring when the number on the clock matched the number on the post it. If he woke up and the numbers didn't match, he was supposed to read books or play quietly. It worked well for us! HTH Cathy
  16. Use camping gear too! Portable stoves and charcoal dutch ovens open some possibilities. Or you can have them prepare your regular dishes but do the TV trick and have one sample already prepared/cooked from home that they can taste. Good luck!
  17. My 3 yo son was able to get a bottle of gummi bear vitamins open too! He didn't eat any but I was really concerned about the defect in the top. It really was a substandard "childproof" top. I sent an email to the company but never heard back. So for all the other moms with gummi bear vitamins, don't trust the lid or switch brands!
  18. "Do not pick your nose with the fish!" I actually said this today! My son was making an art project with posterboard fish and the rest is self explanatory. What are some of the things you had to say that you just never thought you would utter?
