American History and World History at the same time?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever tried this? My kids will be in 3rd and 1st next year. I had planned on doing just American History for the next 2 years. But I love history so much, I would love to also do World History alongside of it, starting with ancient times.

Is it doable? What were your experiences, if you have done this before? What did your history schedule look like? Would it be too much to do both?

We do this, and always have. We use TruthQuest history, one guide for U.S., and another one for world. Currently, we are finishing up the middle ages for world, and just starting the 20th century in U.S. We just treat it as two separate "subjects," and do what comes next in each. It has worked out really well, and we have been able to take our time and not rush through, like I would have felt we needed to if we'd only done world or U.S. alone.

My Father's World does them together as they occur chronologically -- so not American & Ancients. Oh, and not for little ones.
