Ali in OR
This would be for both history as we are cycling back to Ancients and for bible study. I like the idea of just reading through the whole bible with the kids in a year. We read sections from an NIV bible now in our bible studies, so I think we'll be ready for the real thing instead of a kids' bible or bible storybook. Has anyone out there done this before? How did it work? Were you able to complete it in a year? Is there a particular bible you would recommend? Thanks.
Carol in Cal.
...because there is controversy about some chronologies, and I don't want to get mixed up in that. However, a good study Bible that you trust will have essays that include dating information for both the writer and the content of each book, and if you have one of those it is pretty easy to use it in chronological order and intersperse it with SOTW1. I did that when we started studying world history, and it made a very rich year and a half. We read all of the historical books, and excerpts from many of the others. It was fantastic. By the way, the study Bible I used was the Concordia Self-Study Bible in NIV.
Zoo Keeper
An interesting book regarding Biblical chronology and ancient history is Unwrapping the Pharaohs, by John Ashton and David Down. It gave me food for thought when I was trying to navigate my way through ancient history (which is still a work in progress...) It is available at Rainbow Resource and from AiG.
