Questions re: Shurley Grammar songs/chants

Yes, they could! We used SG for 3rd & 4th grade, and dd memorized most of the songs & chants. We have now moved over to EG, and she uses the songs and chants to help her out frequently. They are all fact based rather than just geared to that curriculum.

We use and LOVE FLL. After my oldest completed FLL 2 we stepped away temporarily to try Shurley English Level 3. After trying it for about 10 weeks, I decided to throw in the towel. It is a thorough grammar program, but it just wasn't for us. I also wanted to be sure my son learned how to diagram sentences, not just label them.

 

We continue to use the Shurley English chants. They have helped both of my kids memorize the definitions of the parts of speach AND questions that can be used to identify how the word is used in a sentence.

 

FLL certainly has enough repetition to memorize parts of speech, but the chants provide a nice change of pace. We simply listen to the CD a couple of times a week before our regular grammar lesson. You could easily listen only to the track that applies to your grammar lesson and then begin your regular lesson.
